Welcome

The Atlanta ASDFED Chapter would like to invite you to attend their upcoming meeting.  The meetings are open to the general public.

Topic:  Case Study:  Bridging the Gap: From Accounting, Digital Evidence to... Capital Murder???

At this meeting, David Sawyer, a CPA, Fraud Examiner and Licensed PI, will address the importance of conducting objective, truth-focused, rational and systematic searches for digital evidence.  In this case study, he will discuss how proper digital evidence handling procedures and processes were not followed.  This initially lead to a conviction for capital murder being overturned.  When a second trial for the same crime was granted, a hung jury resulted.  In the third and final trial (more than 10 years after the murder), critical testimony was given regarding recovery and preservation of electronic evidence, which weighed  heavily in the minds of jurors.  The result was an acquittal, many doubts remain, even to this day, as to the identity of the true killer.  From this presentation you will learn how to avoid making the same mistakes.

Speaker: David Sawyer

David Sawyer is a CPA (Certified in Financial Forensics, and Certified Information Technology Professional), Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Internal Auditor and Licensed Private Detective.  As a forensic expert, he has investigated fraud, corruption or financial damages in more than 120 cases, and has provided expert witness testimony in more than a dozen of those matters.  In addition to forensic and investigative work, he still regularly consults with organizations on improvements of internal controls, as well as fraud prevention and detection. Before establishing Sawyer & Company in 2003, he was a managing consultant with forensic units of two Big Four accounting firms.  Three times, David has been elected president of the Georgia Chapter of ACFE, and has provided training for thousands of professionals and students in forensic accounting, internal controls and white collar crime investigations.
