Dan J. Mares, Director of Forensic Development for Norcross Group, will speak on: 

Creating a Custom Linux Boot Disk to Capture Digital Evidence

 Dan Mares, an internationally recognized expert examiner for Norcross Group, will share his expertise regarding how to create a customized Linux Boot disk using the SUSE online process. He'll demonstrate how to run the boot disk as well as a custom DCFLDD (DD variant) to obtain sound forensic images. In addition, Dan will explain the imaging script the Norcross Group uses to capture and log the imaging process as evidence.

 

About the Speaker

 

Dan J. Mares is an internationally recognized expert examiner for Norcross Group. He also leads the company’s efforts to customize and develop unique and specialized tools that support Norcross Group’s services. He is a former federal criminal investigator with an extensive digital forensics background. He served 28 years with the Department of The Treasury, and finished his career as a criminal investigator with the Internal Security Division of the IRS. After retiring, Dan wrote MARESWARE, which has grown into a suite of investigative and forensic analysis software used by law enforcement agencies worldwide. He is a popular instructor of computer forensics at institutions ranging from local colleges to the Institute of Police Training and Management at the Connecticut State Police Academy. Dan is the former president of the Atlanta area chapter of the High Technology Crimes Investigation Association (HTCIA), from which he has received a Lifetime Achievement Award. He is a member of the International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists (IACIS), where he holds the IACIS Disk Processing and Seizure certification. He is also a Certified Information Forensics Investigator (CIFI) and a Certified Computer Examiner (CCE).

Take exit 18 off I-285.  Turn inside the perimeter.  Pass Starbucks and Rite Aid Pharmacy on the left.  Decend the hill and cross the railroad tracks. SOHO is located in the shopping center after the red light. This is the corner of Paces Ferry and New Paces Ferry Road.
